Policy working groups to leverage the network’s expertise and insights

  • Working groups organised by key policy topics

We’re forming 12 working groups, each comprised of experts in their fields from LIC’s network, to discuss their views, perspectives and insights on policy topics aligned to Labour’s election priorities.

  • Sounding board

We’re providing a dedicated sounding board for Labour to test ideas and consult with industry experts.

  • Findings

Each working group will produce individual content, such as commissioning polling and surveys, as well as recommend innovative ideas, tactical communications approaches and stakeholder engagement.

  • Economy and Future of Work

This grouping will focus on business, big and small, as well as policy on the future of work, exploring how Government can back British business to create the jobs of the future, how we can partner with business to create a world-class vocational education system and apprenticeships, how we can give workers full rights from day one and how we can make flexible working a force for good for all.

  • Financial Services and Pensions

This grouping will consider the financial services industry, in the wake of Brexit and wider reforms, and how we can empower the sector to support Labour’s aims to buy, make and sell more in Britain and how it can enable a fair and prosperous transition to net zero.

  • Net Zero, Energy and Infrastructure

This grouping will explore how we can seize the opportunities of a low carbon and digital economy, radically cut emissions and reverse the decline of nature, as well as how we can bolster energy security.

  • Health and Social Care

The NHS is one of Labour’s greatest achievements and it is in the midst of a serious Tory crisis. In the backdrop of a global pandemic, this group will look at how we can properly resource and support our NHS, support older and disabled people and give everyone who needs them access to mental health services.

  • Transport

This group will explore how we can create a sustainable, affordable, accessible and integrated transport system across aviation, rail, road and maritime, as well as issues such as integrated smart cities.

  • Food and Environment

This group will look at how Labour can create better places for the environment and people, as well as support sustainable living and bolstering sustainable supply chains.

  • Housing and Planning

Changes in the housing market, rental accommodation and the planning system will be a priority at the next election. This group will focus on future solutions for these policies and making sure that the housing needs of future generations are met.

  • Devolution and Local Government

Devolution has gone from strength to strength, not just across the United Kingdom but across cities and regions. Local government is more influential to our politics than ever. With ‘levelling up’ set for the Tory axe, this grouping will explore options to better utilise devolution, empower local government and offer solutions to regional inequality.

  • Justice, Equalities and Legal Services

This grouping will explore how we can deliver safer streets and equip our police to tackle more complex crimes, put victims back at the heart of the criminal justice system, as well as ideas on how to dismantle systemic barriers to opportunity and combat injustices faced by minority and disadvantaged communities.

  • Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

This grouping will seek to understand the potential of technology for the UK, how to promote using it in our economy and our public services and how to regulate its use to protect citizens from unethical use.

  • Education

This grouping will look at the education policy for England and Wales, in particular challenges facing the higher education sector such as research and development investment, as well options to widen access to high quality, affordable childcare and revitalising children’s and youth services.

  • Defence, Aid, Trade and International Relations

This grouping will explore Britain’s place in the world, how to keep Britain safe and make the world more secure, how to restore Britain’s reputation as a reliable international partner and how to develop an ambitious trade policy fit for the 21st century.
